Teaching with Zines Workshop
This workshop is for U of I faculty and staff only. Registration is required.
While many people associate zines (pronounced ZEENS) with the Riot grrrl movement of the 1990s, there is actually a much longer history of using zines to amplify a variety of voices and experiences and are still a vibrant part of today's society. Zines are small, noncommercial, DIY, self-published works about anything the creator of the zine wants. They are also great resources to use in classes and as potential assignments, challenging the idea of mainstream media and teaching students about alternative sources of information. If you are interested in learning more about the different ways zines are used, as well as the ways you can use them in the classroom, regsiter for one of the upcoming workshops led by Student Success librarian, María Emerson.
