The University Library is participating in active shooter training, the name of the program is “3 Minutes to Live”. This training is being strongly recommended by the University of Illinois Police Department and is being supported by Dean John Wilkin. There were library specific training sessions for the past three years and we are providing one this semester for new employees or employees that could not attend previous trainings.

You may already be familiar with the availability of this training. It is announced on the E-Week announcements and through the campus HR newsletter, and offered by the UIPD. A number of staff in the Library have already completed the training, if you would like to speak with someone about the class and its impact, just let me know.

Dean Wilkin is providing box lunches for participants. After you register, you will receive information about ordering your preference for lunch. Water and coffee are provided at the site all day, and there is a snack machine.  

The training session has been scheduled for Thursday, August 23. This training runs for the entire day, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is scheduled at the ILEAS location, 1701 East Main Street, Urbana, 61802. ILEAS building is located on Main Street, close to the Champaign Humane Society, and the County Jail. Parking is free at the site. The buses that run to the ILEAS building are the Green and the Gray. Please check the MTD scheduler online, www.cumtd.com, if you wish to take the bus to the training.

Again, the session is scheduled for Thursday, August 23, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at ILEAS on 1701 East Main Street. Attendance at the session counts as time worked. Please check with your supervisor before registering so that the needs of the unit may be considered with your participation.
