Layering Learning with LC Labs: Exploring Possibility at the Library of Congress with People, Data, and Practice

I am so excited to invite you to the first sponsored talk hosted by the Social Lives of Digitized Culture HRI Research Cluster! We will be joined virtually by a team from the Library of Congress’ LC Labs (https://labs.loc.gov/) who will discuss their efforts to incubate a range of crowdsourcing, machine learning, and visualization experiments using the Library’s digital collections. We are particularly eager to have librarians, faculty, staff, and students join us for the conversation.

Abstract: Through experimentation, research and collaboration, LC Labs works to realize the Library’s vision that “all Americans are connected to the Library of Congress” by enabling the Library’s Digital Strategy. LC Labs is home to the Library of Congress Innovator in Residence Program; has nurtured experiments in machine learning and the use of collections as data; and incubated the Library’s popular crowdsourced transcription program By the People. The LC Labs team is marking five years of connecting experimentation, evidence, and evaluation. Join them in this session to learn more about the ways data and tacit knowledge build upon one another to inform their innovation engagements and collaboration.
